Park Regis Dubai team takes part in diabetes walk

DUBAI, December 1, 2015

The Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai team joined more than 17,000 residents last week to take part in the seventh annual Beat Diabetes Walk in the emirate.

The event was held at Zabeel Park and was organised by Landmark Group to raise awareness about diabetes that is recognised worldwide as a growing epidemic.

Advocating prevention and management of diabetes by following three simple steps – eat healthy, get active and take the test, the hugely successful campaign is conducted every year across five countries in the GCC namely Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE and Oman.

Scott Butcher, general manager, Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai, said: "Beat Diabetes Walk is a superb initiative by Landmark Group that draws attention to how small food and lifestyle changes can go a long way in the prevention and management of diabetes.

"Campaigns such as these give us a unique opportunity to work for the well-being of our community and we are proud of all volunteers who took part in it."

An estimated 387 million people are living with diabetes and by 2035 this number is expected to rise to 592 million, said a statement.

Closer to home, in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region the numbers are even more alarming with one in every 10 adults diagnosed with diabetes.

The six GCC countries are amoung the world’s top 15 countries with the highest prevalence of diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance. The greatest cause of concern is the lack of awareness about the condition, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
