UAE plans to build two new hospitals in Iraq

ERBIL, April 7, 2016

The UAE government is set to start work on two hospital projects, including an eye treatment centre, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq to serve the displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees, said a report.

These projects are being implemented with the help of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) as part of its efforts to promote medical services in northern Iraq.

ERC recently laid the foundation stone for the Mother of the Nation Eye Hospital, a first-of-its-kind hospital in Kurdistan, said the state news agency Wam.

The charity organisation also opened a number of new projects for the refugees in the Kurdistan region, including the 58-bed Ataya Hospital for Childhood and Motherhood in Erbil besides a camp with a capacity of 632 residential units as well as other service projects, said the report.

The ERC delegation also laid the foundation stone for a new fever specialty hospital, it added.
