Dubai expo to put spotlight on water sustainability

DUBAI, March 28, 2017

The inaugural edition of Future Cities Show in Dubai, UAE, will see experts showcase a series of new water technologies and discuss the key elements linked to water recycling, conservation and rainwater harvesting, thus highlighting the importance of water sustainability.

The event, to be held from April 2 to 4, will see experts introduce a series of new water technologies that have been developed as viable alternatives to older, less feasible options.

The Future Cities Show is a global platform for companies and organisations engaged in developing an advanced infrastructure all over the world. It will attract big investors and those who have creative and innovative ideas to build future cities from economic, technological and environmental aspects.

The upcoming event will shed light on low-cost water treatment technologies, water recycling, conservation and rainwater harvesting which will serve as important elements for future cities.

“Water is a critical component for life on earth. Many of our facilities are already efficient in terms of using water, but we can always do more. Given the scale of our need, we’re working to become more conscious about our water footprint,” said Dawood Al Shezawi, the chairman of Strategic and Head of the organisation committee of the new show.

A series of activities and events aiming to maximise its benefits to exhibitors and visitors have been planned, he stated.

These activities will be attended by specialists and pioneers in energy, water and environment as they spread a culture of sustainability and strengthen national and regional efforts to achieve a green economy, added Al Shezawi.

According to him, several countries across the globe are doing more than just dabbling in wastewater recycling right now.

Singapore, Spain besides a few Scandinavian countries, as well as the US recycle a significant portion of the wastewater they generate.

Recycled wastewater is generally disposed of in larger bodies of water - seas, rivers, ponds, etc. or used for gardening, cleaning, as well as for industrial applications.

The UAE, he said, too has taken advanced steps to ensure water sustainability for the present and future generations.

"With rising energy costs and global warming, new approaches to water process engineering technology are vital for future cities," stated Al Shezawi.

"The Future Cities Show will for the first time address these challenges, insights and solutions for water sustainability in a direct, integrated and holistic way. The conference will allow the dissemination and discussion of cutting edge research in water process engineering, sustainability and energy efficiency," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
