Basrec enters into expansion mode

Manama, February 4, 2014

Bahrain Ship Repairing and Engineering Company (Basrec) has embarked on a major expansion which includes a significant upgrade of its power supply as well as extension of berthing facilities.

This expansion will boost its already substantial capabilities at a leading ship repair as well as an electrical engineering facility - a fact it is highlighting at the ongoing Gulf Industry Fair 2014 in Bahrain.

Basrec has built a 70-m finger pier, and a 50-m quay wall to accommodate more vessels. The dry docking capacity of the yard is being increased by constructing a brand new floating dock of double the capacity of the existing one, said the company.

Basrec was established in 1962 as the first ship repair facility in the Gulf. It offers complete maintenance and repair services to locally based and offshore support vessels, in addition to supporting the local navy and other allied navies visiting the country with its good workmanship.

The company provides dry docking, major overhauling and upgrading, and over the years, has completed a number of conversion projects including the life extension of vessels for both local and international owners.

In addition to its ship repair yard, Basrec has four fully equipped sub-divisions for specific activities of containers repair, small boats repair, marine and industrial pumps repair, and technical engineering and marketing services (Teams – Bahrain).

The small boat repair and container repair divisions are fully established in their related areas and serve its wide client base.

Established in 1975, Teams-Bahrain is an electrical engineering company specialised in providing customised sales services in areas such as 11 lV switchboards, dry-type and oil-filled transformers, main distribution low-voltage (LV) switchboards, bus risers, power factor correction, motor control centres, sub main distribution boards, distribution boards, cleaning, hygiene and maintenance products, pumps for sweet water, dewatering and sewerage, and glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) tanks that can be assembled.

The company has provided a wide range of services to many mega engineering projects in Bahrain with customisation and optimisation in design being the key considerations.

Basrec’s other divisions include Marine and Industrial Pump Repair (MIPR), a fully equipped, quality-based service facility for the repair of pumps and allied services.-TradeArabia News Service
