Amphibious boats make global debut in Dubai

Dubai, March 11, 2014

The world’s first amphibious boats targeting the leisure and recreational market made its worldwide debut at the Dubai International Boat Show held recently.

The boat show was held at the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi from March 4 to 8.

Sealegs International, a global leader in manufacturing amphibious boats, has patented the amphibious technology and sold the licence to ASIS Boats, a Dubai-based boat manufacturer.

“We unveiled the 6.5 meter craft at the show to a very curious crowd,” said ASIS Boats president Roy Nouhra.

“We have followed and admired the Sealegs amphibious technology for many years, and are now proud to launch our very first ASIS amphibious craft that is powered by Sealegs,” he stated.

The Sealegs is a high-performance, high-capacity boat, constructed with a solid, shaped hull and flexible tubes at the gunwale, and powered by New Zealand-based company.

It consists of motorised, retractable and steerable wheels, powering the boat with off-water capabilities and able to be driven out of the water and deployed into the water without any hassle or need for a ramp.

“We see much growth and opportunity through our partnership with the New Zealand marine technology company and look forward to building many more boats for both our local and international clients,” added Nouhra.

ASIS Boats is one of the top three global Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) manufacturers, focused on providing customers – including the USA army and UAE Coast Guard – with customised boats equipped with innovation including reserve buoyancy, natural deflection of spray and lateral stability.

“This is a significant milestone for Sealegs International,” said its chairman, Eric Series.

“We want to share our patented amphibious technology with the best international boat builders in the aim to revolutionise the use of boats around the world. Combining patented technology with experience, craftsmanship and passion is the future of the marine industry,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
