New measure to ease trucks congestion on causeway

MANAMA, April 8, 2015

A new measure will soon be introduced to ease the truck congestion on the Saudi Arabia-Bahrain King Fahad Causeway as part of efforts to avert bottlenecks and ensure smooth flow of lorries.

Loaded trucks will leave Khalifa Bin Salman Port and head to the fee-paying gate at the causeway, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

After paying the fees drivers will have to park their lorries in Janabiya until they are allowed access to Saudi Arabia through a new entrance gate.

Under the existing system, loaded and unloaded trucks use Janabiya Highway to proceed to the weighing section before reaching the Saudi Customs, disrupting traffic by causing congestion on Janabiya Highway.

The new measure was announced as Customs Affairs president Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa met King Fahad Causeway Authority directorgeneral Abdulrahman bin Saad Al Yahya. - TradeArabia News Service
