Saudi Arabia to develop industrial cities for women

RIYADH, November 17, 2015

The Saudi Organization for Industrial Estates and Technology Zones (Modon) is set to develop new industrial cities in the cities of Jeddah, Yanbu, Qassim and Al-Jouf with focus on women workers, said a report.

Modon has already started co-ordinating with other parties to allocate industrial land for the establishment of these cities, which will be designed specifically for women folk to work in, reported the Arab News.

These industrial estates will be set up near populous areas so as to attract investments and also to support the growth of the local women working in these units. Such establishments will also ensure ease of access to public transport, crèches and kindergartens, stated the report, citing a senior official.

"The organization is applying a strategy to establish units for employment that meet global standards and are completely eco-friendly and also which has special designs that take into account the Saudi woman and her specific needs," remarked Sami Al-Husseini, Modon’s marketing and public relations director.

Al-Husseini emphasised that Saudi women today are being increasingly recognized as strong economic players, having full productive capacities inside the industrial cities under Modon.

The Modon Oasis in Al Ahsa area is the first industrial city totally run by women. It operates on 500,000 sq m south of Hafouf near the airport, and has more than 80 factories, he added.
