Iran, India to expand maritime cooperation

IRAN, November 22, 2015

Iran has planned to expand its maritime cooperation with India following the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic, said the managing director of Iran-India Shipping Corporation.

Based on agreements between Tehran and New Delhi, the two countries intend to boost trade and sea transport, Jamshid Khalili was quoted as saying in an Iran Daily report, citing IRNA.

The two sides have agreed to tackle shipping problems between the two nations, he said.

The Indian side has pledged to issue permanent shipping licenses for Iranian vessels to overcome insurance problems for Iranian ships, he said. Presently the licenses issued to Iranian vessels are only valid for one year.
