Egypt plans to establish solar plant for industries

CAIRO, February 5, 2017

Egypt plans to establish a new solar energy project for industrial purposes, said Minister of Industry and Trade Tarek Kabil.

The $6.6 million project will be established with the cooperation of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) and New and Renewable Energy Authority.

The project will be financed by the Global Environment Facility and provide energy for the food, textile, and chemical industries, Kabil was quoted as saying in a Daily News Egypt report.

The minister added that the Ministry of Environment is setting the standard and requirements for factories in order to benefit from the project.

Kabil said that the project is part of the government’s strategies to generate 20 per cent of Egypt’s energy from renewable sources by the year 2020, which amounts to 7200 MW.
