Kalaam offers fixed wireless service

Manama, July 9, 2007

Kalaam Telecom has announced what it called a "milestone" for the country's telecom sector - the first tested and operational fixed wireless network in Bahrain.

Introductory promotional packages with unlimited threshold and speeds ranging from 128 kbps to 2 MB are already being offered for both residential and businesses at competitive rates by the firm in conjunction with Green Packet Networks.

"We delivered on our promise to Bahrain,'' said Kalaam chief executive Carlos Riera.

"Our fixed wireless service will not only give an option to the current Internet solution in Bahrain but also give a real and tangible value add to the residential market that will be able to choose from a variety of internet packages to suit their needs at very competitive prices

"Over the past few months we have introduced many customer-focused initiatives to deliver on our promise of quality and service. Our 24/7 customer support, online account management and tracking, and defined service level agreements compliment our wireless broadband service and give our customer peace of mind and clarity of our commitments to them," he added.

Chairman Walid Al Shoaibi said:

"Bahrain is the ideal place to start because of the enormous strides the government is taking to reform and liberalise the economy as well as ending monopoly over important services sectors."

The firm said its fixed wireless broadband is the first operational wireless Internet in Bahrain. Kalaam has already started operations in Juffair and plans to cover most of Bahrain in the coming months.

Green Packet Networks is a leading broadband wireless technology provider and next generation mobile solution developer.

"We started our operation in Bahrain in February, with a commitment to offer a reliable, cost-effective and customer-focused solution for wireless Internet. Our advanced integrated wireless solutions were perfectly equipped to address the growing need of wireless internet to the Bahraini market and now we are happy to announce that we have achieved this milestone through our partnership with Kalaam Telecom," said GPN chairman Dr Ali Al Mashat.

The service uses Kalaam's SONmetro solution, which is designed for metropolitan coverage.TradeArabia News Service
