Injazat wins TRA approval to deal in .ae domains

Dubai, August 4, 2009

Injazat Data Systems, a leading IT and process managed services provider, recently won the accreditation from the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to register and market .ae website domains in the UAE.

The authorisation comes as a result of a registry registrar memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UAE TRA’s UAE computer emergency response team (.aeCERT) initiative.

Although Internet use in the Middle East grew by 1,296 per cent from 2000 to 2008, Arabic content currently accounts for less than one per cent of all online content. The UAE is one of the region’s most prolific Internet users, with a penetration rate of 43 per cent.

The agreement between Injazat and .aeCERT aims to leverage this solid rate to encourage even more online activity from UAE users. The TRA has been regulating UAE-based website domains through its .aeDA department since 2007.

“This agreement marks a major milestone for Injazat and significantly expands our IT services portfolio,” said Ibrahim Lari, CEO of Injazat.

“The UAE’s rapidly growing internet market requires constant expansions in capabilities, services and infrastructure. Our accreditation as a domain registrar will enable us to better assist the TRA in its goal of creating an optimal enabling environment for the UAE’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector.”

Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, director general, UAE TRA, said: “The signing of this MoU is considered an important step in providing Injazat with high-quality services that will protect its IT infrastructure via .aeCERT, whose objectives are to enhance the cyber security law and assist in the creation of new ones and enhance information security awareness across the UAE.” – TradeArabia News Service
