UAE Ministry wins technology award

Dubai, March 9, 2011

The UAE Ministry of Economy’s IT Department recently won the Open Group Arabia Award for its continuous adoption of the latest technologies in institutional planning.

“The Ministry is committed to offer high quality services for our customers and our IT department integrates global best practices in line with the international standards,” said Mohammed Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shihhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy.

“The Ministry will continuously update technologies related to institutional planning. The Open Group Arabia Award clearly demonstrates our adherence to the highest standards in IT implementation.”

Essam Al Falasi, director of the IT Department, said: “The implementation of a long-term strategy for IT includes several key initiatives that will help and strengthen the performance of various services undertaken by the Ministry.”

The Ministry had recently launched a cross-section of high quality and efficient online services at the madeintheuae.com website, which will help UAE manufacturers to globally promote their factories, products, and services.

The Ministry has also launched the electronic system for goods monitoring which connects the Ports & Customs and the Ministry of Economy and centres of major retailers, enabling the Ministry to counter any attempts at potential monopoly practices by negotiating with suppliers or distribution outlets.

Another service was the issuance of Arabic Certificates of Origin online. With this service, the merchant or the producer can apply online and request for a certificate of origin, and update or change the contents of the request for the certificate any time. – TradeArabia News Service
