Bahrain firms win awards for vital role

Manama, May 18, 2011

A number of Bahraini companies were last night honoured for their pioneering role in developing eContent for websites based in the country.

The awards, part of the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2011, were presented during an event at the Gulf Hotel, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Supreme Committee for Information Technology chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

Jobs4Bahrainis.com, Bahrain's first private sector initiative dedicated exclusively to getting more Bahraini nationals into the workforce, won the Bahrain eContent Award 2011 in the eInclusion category.

In addition to eInclusion, award categories comprise eGovernment, eEntertainment, eHealth, eLearning, eScience, eBusiness, eCulture, eBanking and eMedia.

Bahrain-based independent interactive agency 4SPOTS was also honoured.

Company business development director Paul Paulose said the recognition was one in a series of achievements for the agency, which has a presence in the GCC, Europe and Asia.

The company won the eContent award for the eBanking category for the KFH-Bahrain iPhone and Blackberry App.

"Being the first specialised banking application in Bahrain, customers are able to use it to avail location based services," said  Paulose.

He said the Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB) website won the eContent award under the eBanking category for its information architecture allowing content to not only be easily accessible but also for focusing on improving the overall user journey through the website.

"Within the website, visitors can easily access all the pages, products, services or offers and documents related to the products and services BisB has to offer," he said.

4SPOTS founder and chief operating officer Srusti Ranjan said organisations often failed to realise the importance of uniting their interactive strategy.

"Right from usability and easy access to content on their website, to specialised services through applications on devices such as the Blackberry, iPhone, iPad or Android, we ensure a holistic interactive strategy that ensures an optimised presence online."

Meanwhile, Bahraini company Kanoo IT is supporting Bahrain's e-government initiatives by showcasing innovative and advanced infrastructure and allied solutions offered by its technological partners, HP and Microsoft at the forum.

Company general manager Waleed Kanoo said they follow eGovernment strategy initiatives and appreciate organisations' efforts in ensuring effective delivery of government services to citizens and businesses.

He said visitors to the Kanoo IT stand are exposed to a range of powerful solutions and expert services.

Kanoo said the magnitude of interaction in this year's IT Expo is encouraging.

"We will continue our efforts in demonstrating and delivering key solutions and expertise with the support from our partners," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
