ZeroWire launches UAE-inspired app for BB

Dubai, October 16, 2011

ZeroWire Labs, a leading software developer with offices in Dubai and Toronto, said it has launched a UAE-inspired User Generated Content application for BlackBerry smartphones in collaboration with two Emirati Zayed University graduates.

The new application Boum App was created with the support of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Zayed University and ZeroWire Labs.

The application is now available as a free download on BlackBerry App World at https://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/60792.

The students, Fatma Al Ghaith and Meera Alsiri, said they were inspired to develop Boum App – named after the traditional Arabic deep sea dhow – after many of their friends wanted to share their favourite ‘hidden gems’ of the Emirates by interacting with their social networks and friends using BlackBerry smartphones.

“Boum App is a fantastic tool for everyone to enjoy, whether they’re residents or tourists,” said Al Ghaith and Alsiri.

“As Emiratis, we know a lot of places that might not be common knowledge, and we love to share these with people to have them experience the history and heritage of the UAE,” the duo said.

The new Boum App allows users to capture images and post them to the app, along with a brief description of the location or subject, said a ZeroWire Labs statement.

Locations are tagged via GPS, and users can upload an infinite amount of sites for visitors and residents to explore, it added.

“ZeroWire Labs is very keen to support our local developer base. We have created a powerful app for BlackBerry smartphones that integrates social media and user-generated content,” said Mohammed Ali, co-managing director of ZeroWire Labs.

“The application was developed for the BlackBerry platform due to the strong user base of customers in the UAE – it was an easy decision for us to develop for this platform.”

ZeroWire Labs is a member of the Middle East chapter of the BlackBerry Alliance Programme, which provides technical, marketing and business development support to BlackBerry developers.-TradeArabia News Service
