UAE TRA directs 42pc cut in GCC roaming rates

ABU DHABI, April 4, 2016

The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunication Sector (TRA) in the UAE has directed mobile operators in the country to reduce GCC roaming rates by an average of 42 per cent.

The new rates came into force on April 1 and follows the implementation of TRA directive regarding intra-GCC mobile roaming charges issued in September 2015.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, the director general of TRA, stated: “The TRA was actively represented in the roaming working group meetings to study the regulation of roaming prices in the GCC countries. The implementation of the price caps by all mobile operators in the GCC will represent a great achievement for GCC countries to be among the pioneers in implementing such regulations. We are looking forward to the positive impact that the implementation of this directive will have on the UAE customers travelling to the GCC." - TradeArabia News Service
