Dubai Silicon Oasis to showcase smart city initiatives

DUBAI, October 15, 2016

Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, will be showcasing its upcoming projects including Silicon Park, Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre, Axiom Telecom HQ, at the Gitex Technology Week 2016 in Dubai, UAE.

DSOA will host TechTalk sessions throughout the five-day event, inviting industry experts to discuss subjects related to innovation and technology entrepreneurship.

A comprehensive model of the 7.2-sq-km integrated technology park will be central to DSOA’s display. In addition, it will showcase its smart city initiatives at the Smart Dubai Government stands.

As part of its contribution to Dubai’s Smart City Vision, DSOA will showcase the Innovation Ignition Lab in collaboration with Intel (a centre to promote novel Internet of Things developments), the Smart Weather Pole in collaboration with Pacific Controls (a pole that measures the temperature and humidity and works with the subsurface irrigation system to supply the area with the optimal amount of water), the Smart Human Crossing in collaboration with Volkswagen (a structure arched over a pedestrian crossing outside Gems Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis that highlights the name of individual students crossing beneath it), the Smart Street Solution in collaboration with Huawei (a pole that incorporates a number of advanced features geared towards creating a friendly and secure environment for the community), and the Smart Waste Management System alerting the operations and services team when refuse bins need emptying.

On its participation, Adnan Al Bahar, the vice president of marketing and corporate communications at DSOA, said: "Gitex offers an ideal annual platform for local and global technology companies to come together, exchange expertise and best practices, discuss increasing trends in the field, and explore potential business opportunities."

"To underline our focus at promoting the hi-tech park as a proof of concepts for smart city initiatives, we will leverage our participation this year to highlight DSOA’s projects that support Dubai Smart Initiative - such as the Innovation Ignition Lab, and Smart Street Solution, among many others," he added.

Furthermore, DSOA’s wholly-owned Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Centre (Dtec), the largest of its kind in the region, will showcase its offerings and its commitment to supporting technology start-ups and innovation through an exclusive stand.

Commending DSOA’s initiative to host a stand-alone stand for Dtec, Adnan said: "We are proud to see the centre come such a long way. Its independent participation at this year’s Gitex is testament to the centre’s growth and success in attracting SMEs, and supporting the entrepreneurship sector. We wish the centre a positive presence and a fruitful involvement."

A wholly-owned entity of the government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone technology park for large enterprises, medium and small companies looking to set up their offices in Dubai.-TradeArabia News Service
