New sculptural light concept on display

Dubai, February 12, 2014

Dubai-based arts consultancy Capsule Arts will unveil a new sculptural light concept at the upcoming 'Design Days Dubai,' a leading fair dedicated to collectible and limited edition furniture and design objects.

Created by Giles Miller Studio, a London-based studio specialising in the development of innovative textural surface design, the lighting commission will be presented by Capsule Arts and the artist at the week-long event, acting as the catalyst to introduce the Studio’s three dimensional artistic forms and its first foray into lighting design.

The audience at Design Days Dubai will get the exclusive opportunity to interact with the sculptural light installations, on display for the first time at the Capsule Arts’ stand in The Venue, Downtown Dubai from March 17 to 21.

The artist’s well-honest techniques and skills in creating intricate wood and ceramic surfaces have been developed into a mesmerizing effect that reflects light and shadow.

Capsule Arts, the brainchild of co-founders, curators and artistic entrepreneurs Deepa Bhatia and Rachael Brown, brings bespoke art commissions to interior design projects and public areas in the UAE and wider Middle East.

Recently completed projects include the Arabic Gallery and Salero Tapas Bodega restaurant, both in Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, the Dhow and Anchor restaurant in Jumeirah Beach Hotel, and artwork throughout the new 72 Hotel by HUES in Sharjah.

“Public space in Dubai is an interesting concept right now; the way we congregate and interact in hotels, malls, and restaurants means that we’re seeing a real interest in featuring high-calibre art and design throughout these spaces,” remarked Brown.

The arts consultancy works with a diverse range of artists specialising in various materials and artistic disciplines and strives to showcase artists producing work that cannot be found elsewhere in the region.

Working with artists who can bring both creativity and innovation, along with technical skill and craftsmanship, Capsule Arts is able to effectively commission bespoke art creations that are valuable to the client’s portfolio and work in harmony with the property’s design and functionality.

"The beauty of commissioning an artwork is that it becomes an integrated approach where we bring together the artist with the project designer and owner, sometimes even the operator and marketing team of the property," said Bhatia.

"It’s a process that allows us to create something that speaks for the company’s brand and values – engaging visitors to a whole other level," he added.

Giles Miller Studio has been commissioned by some of the world’s most prestigious brands including Stella McCartney, Selfridges, British Airways, Ritz-Carlton Hotels, London Design Museum, The Metropolitan Hotel, and Level Shoe District in Dubai Mall.

“As artists we are constantly developing and pushing our depth of concept and our personal interests,” said Giles Miller.

“In our case we are interested in the manipulation of light and shadow. The opportunity to marry our current work with the foreign influence of a client who may have a different perspective is always an interesting and progressive process for everyone involved," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
