Dubai arts consultancy wins major hotel deal

Dubai, March 16, 2014

Dubai-based arts consultancy Capsule Arts and the Giles Miller Studio have been awarded a large scale art commission by Majid Al Futtaim Properties to feature in the main lobby reception of Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates.

The art piece will be unveiled this summer at the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates and will form part of their newly acquired art collection.

A first of its kind installation from Giles Miller, the art installation will use a technique developed by the artist in an exploration of his ever-evolving relationship with light and shadow through the use of ‘pixelated’ forms, said a statement.

“It’s a pleasure to be working with the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates once again,” said Deepa Bhatia, co-founder of Capsule Arts.  “As a client they truly understand the impact memorable art and design can have on its guests and their experience.”

The announcement comes as Capsule Arts prepares to showcase the launch of Giles Miller Studio’s new sculptural light concept at this week’s Design Days Dubai, the leading fair dedicated to collectible and limited edition furniture and design objects. The lighting commission, called Castor & Pollux, will be presented by Capsule Arts and Giles Miller at the week-long event, acting as the catalyst to introduce the Studio’s three dimensional artistic forms and its first foray into lighting design.

The audience at Design Days Dubai have the exclusive opportunity to interact with the sculptural light installations, on display for the first time at the Capsule Arts’ stand in The Venue, Downtown Dubai from March 17 to 21, the statement said.

Castor & Pollux are un-identical twin lighting installations, each made up of over 8,500 suspended components produced from a combination of dark walnut and sheet brass.  As the pieces rotate slowly to expose their entire circumference to the viewer, the shapes within the cluster evolve and change, eventually showing an inner ‘reveal’ which appears, in an almost digital fashion, inside the outer shell of the piece.

Capsule Arts, the brainchild of co-founders, curators and artistic entrepreneurs Deepa Bhatia and Rachael Brown, brings bespoke art commissions to interior design projects and public areas in the UAE and wider Middle East.

Working with artists who can bring both creativity and innovation, along with technical skill and craftsmanship, Capsule Arts is able to effectively commission bespoke art creations that are valuable to the client’s portfolio and work in harmony with the property’s design and functionality. – TradeArabia News Service
