Dubai sounds alert over hazardous materials

Companies in Dubai have been asked to obtain permit for storing hazardous and chemical materials.

Dubai Municipality has urged industrial establishments, companies and warehouses storing hazardous goods or chemical materials in the emirate to strictly adhere to the technical guidelines the civic body has issued in this regard.

In a circular issued to these establishments, the municipality has asked them to follow rules and regulations pertaining to storing dangerous goods and chemical materials, according to a statement.

'Any company, premise and warehouse establishment which stores dangerous goods above the quantities as stated the Code of Practice is directed to secure a permit for Storage of Dangerous Goods from Environment Department at Dubai Municipality,' the circular read.

Failure to comply with the directives shall result in strict measures taken against them including penalties, disconnection of services, and legal action leading to closure, the government said. They were given 30 days to abide by the regulations. – TradeArabia News Service
