Syrian Arab Television's News Centre opens

Dubai, April 27, 2009

The News Centre for the Syrian Arab Television in Damascus, constructed and equipped in accordance with a decree of Sheikh Mohammed, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has become operational.

The decree reflects Dubai’s initiative to extend cooperation grounds in the field of media through the exchange of expertise between the UAE and the Syrian Arab Republic.

In addition, the synergy will utilise the successful experience of Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), one of the pioneering media organisations in the Middle East, to further develop the Syrian broadcast media.

The 1,800 sqm News Centre features the main editorial room, control room, and the studios that are fitted-out with world-class equipment over an area of 300 sqm.

“The News Centre in Damascus is equipped with the most modern digital technology that will bring about a transformation in the delivery of news while keeping abreast of developments in the broadcast media,” said Ahmad Abdulla Al Shaikh, managing director of DMI.

More importantly, the news centre at the Syrian Arab Television will facilitate the Syrian media to project a realistic image of the insightful Arab media, and contribute to highlighting the welcoming nature of the region’s culture.

“The professional and timely execution of the news centre is highly appreciated, especially with the world-class facilities the centre is equipped with,” added Mohsen Bilal, Syrian Minister of Information.

The new centre represents a major step in cooperation between DMI and Syrian media authorities. Earlier, DMI provided on-ground technical support for the broadcast of activities and events during the Arab Summit Conference, which was held in Damascus in 2008.

In addition, DMI has also extended training support to a television crew from Syria at its studios in Dubai.-TradeArabia News Service
