Singapore ‘Takeout’ heads to Dubai

Dubai, January 31, 2011

Dubai has been chosen as one of nine global cities to host Singapore Takeout, an innovative pop-up restaurant that will traverse the globe to bring a taste of Singapore to the world.

Singapore Takeout is part of a series of events under the Singapore International Culinary Exchange (Spice) to showcase the depth and dynamism of Singapore cuisine and showcases the nation as a centre for culinary excellence internationally.

Singapore Takeout is housed in a shipping container and will transform to reveal live culinary exhibitions by celebrity chefs. It will tour nine key gourmand cities: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Moscow, London, Paris, New York, Sydney, Delhi and Dubai where it will arrive later in the year.

Each pop-up location will feature a prominent Singaporean culinary personality collaborating with a local guest chef from the country to design and create a menu that incorporates the best of the two cuisines in order to appeal to the market’s dining preferences.

Alongside Singapore Takeout, talented chefs from the around the world will be invited to take part in the Global Chef Exchange, a culinary immersion programme where they will be introduced to the local spices, smells and sights of Singapore cooking through workshops and culinary demonstrations by Singapore’s top chefs.

The Global Chef Exchange encourages visiting chefs to innovate on their own recipes to incorporate influences from their immersion programme and go on to include this Singapore-inspired cuisine in their home cities.

The Spice initiative was announced on January 25 at A Night in Singapore, a multi-sensory opening event featuring Singapore’s celebrated chefs at the prestigious gastronomy summit Madrid Fusion 2011.

“Dubai was chosen as a location for the Singapore Takeout as it is recognised as a forerunner in the international culinary scene, with UAE residents eager to explore new food experiences. We look forward to bringing a taste of innovative Singapore cuisine to the UAE and create menus that blend the rich multi-cultural heritage of the two countries into a novel food experience,” said Jason Ong, area director for Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.-TradeArabia News Service
