Bahrain chamber vows action

Manama, April 19, 2011

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) yesterday announced a crackdown on members involved in the recent unrest in Bahrain.

"The BCCI will hold accountable anyone involved in the criminal conspiracies which targeted Bahrain, sought to defame the leadership and subvert national unity," it said in a statement.

It deplored the fact that certain parties sought to hijack the chamber, lead it away from the right path and force it into taking unpatriotic stances.

The chamber rejected any defamation of national fundamentals, pillars and symbols, throwing its full weight behind measures taken to foil the criminal conspiracy against Bahrain, the wise leadership and people.

The stance came in the wake of a meeting businessmen had with His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The Premier voiced his dismay over traders' silence as Bahrain was confronting a coup attempt.

The BCCI reaffirmed its patriotic role in protecting the nation's hard-won achievements and vital interests.

It lauded HRH the Premier's directives in support of the trade sector to boost its economic role.

It also paid tribute to the wise leadership for reinstating security and stability as the country was on the brink of an abyss.

"The leadership showed a lot of patience, statesmanship and wisdom, exhausting all means to contain the crisis," the statement said, stressing that economic interests are part and parcel of high national interests.  - TradeArabia News Service
