Experts conducting an independent probe into what happened during Bahrain's unrest are set to meet more than 2,000 people, said a spokesperson from the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).

A spokeswoman said the meetings would be held until September 30.

BICI plans to interview victims and witnesses as part of its mandate to uncover alleged human rights violations.

"As of Friday, BICI is no longer accepting phone calls to set up appointments with its investigators, but people can send in written complaints by e-mail," she said. "This is in continuation of the BICI mandate and its interest in hearing all parties."

The spokeswoman said complaints would only be accepted on a relevant form available from the commission website (bici.org.bh).

"A scan of the complainant's identification card and the accurate inclusion of their CPR number, scanned copies of all supportive documents and, if possible, more than one contact number in order to allow the investigator to contact the complainant should also be included," she said.

The spokeswoman said the BICI team had exerted its best efforts to collect maximum number of complaints possible and a record of alleged violations.

"As a result, the BICI would like to remind respondents to co-operate with the commission and fulfil the requirements outlined for complaints to be accepted to allow it to complete its work in the best manner possible," she added.

The BICI was set up by His Majesty King Hamad in June. – TradeArabia News Service
