Bahrain activist's trial adjourned

Manama, June 19, 2012

A trial of an opposition activist accused of taking part in an illegal gathering in Manama has been adjourned until Thursday.

Nabeel Rajab appeared in the Lower Criminal Court, where he was also charged with inciting others to take part in the rally.

Rajab is already on trial in four other cases, including one in which he is charged with taking part in an illegal gathering in Manama and calling for an unauthorised rally and inciting attacks on security forces.

He has also been accused of delivering a speech urging people to stage a march, confront authorities and use violence against the security forces.

Rajab was earlier released on BD300 ($795) bail, but remains in police custody in connection with another case due to be reviewed for the first time today.

The activist will face charges of insulting people of Muharraq by claiming they were government stooges and insulting the Interior Ministry through his Twitter account. – TradeArabia News Service
