Bahrain closer to law on expat driving curbs

Bahrain’s Shura Council is set to pass the new draft traffic law banning expatriates from getting driving licences unless their job requires it when the Council convenes for an extraordinary session today (May 15), a report said.

Foreign affairs, defence and national security committee had come to an agreement with parliament concerning the controversial article, reported our sister publication, the Gulf Daily News.

Initially, the committee recommended the article be scrapped as it was "unconstitutional" and discriminatory.

Meanwhile. the committee is also in agreement with a parliamentary proposal banning a woman wearing the niqab from uncovering her face unless she didn't mind it, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. – TradeArabia News Service
