Segway tests prototype 2-seater
New York, April 13, 2009
Segway, a leader in eco-friendly transportation, and General Motors recently took a test drive of their prototype electric two-seat vehicle designed for commuting in cities.
The vehicle, with just two wheels, could allow people to travel around cities more quickly, safely, quietly and cleanly, and at a lower total cost.
The collaboration, dubbed Project Puma (personal urban mobility and accessibility) combines several technologies that increase mobility freedom with zero emissions, enhanced safety, seamless connectivity and reduced congestion in cities.
The Segway personal transporter (PT) is optimised for short trips beyond walking distance.
Project Puma is intended for longer trips up to 20 kilometers, which typically require traditional fuel vehicles.
Puma values less over more; taking up less space, using less energy, produced more efficiently with fewer parts, creating fewer emissions during production and operation, all while offering more enjoyment, productivity, and connectivity.
Segway’s Puma prototype represents the shift that’s needed for the future of transportation.
Built of the proven reliable and safe technology you find in Segway PT, the Puma prototype increases capacity to two passengers in a seated position, while being capable of carrying them up to anywhere between 25 and 35 mph (40 - 56 km/hr) for anywhere between 25 and 35 miles (40 - 56 km) on a single charge.
It does so while taking advantage of the unparalleled maneuverability and advanced control you get through Segway’s use of dynamic stabilization (balancing technology). – TradeArabia News Service
