Dubai RTA fits bus stations with 3D public route maps

DUBAI, August 19, 2015

Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has installed 3D maps of public bus routes in 16 bus stations in the emirate, according to a report.

The public transport agency's move has been aimed at making the service more accessible for commuters, said the Emirates News Agency (WAM) report.

"The installation of newly designed stands displaying 3D bus charts is compatible with the needs of customers and users of mass transit means and main bus stations," Adel Mohammed Shakri, director of Planning and Business Development, RTA, was quoted as saying.

"The 3D maps installed in several bus stations are characterised by ultra-high accuracy where all details of the station are visible, and service points are clearly marked," he said.

A spider map has also been provided depicting the path of public bus routes serving the station, along with the Offences Code, all of which are integrated in a single map installed at the entry and exit points of the stations, said the report.

Meanwhile, a new plan is being developed where transport information will be on display at various facilities and landmarks of Dubai, it said.

Such information will be transmitted through the RTA’s main website as well as affiliated portals such as Wojhati and Dubai Bus, which can readily process the information received, it added.
