23 injured in Abu Dhabi car pile-up

ABU DHABI, January 16, 2016

Twenty three people sustained minor injuries in four separate accidents involving a total of 96 vehicles on the Abu Dhabi – Al Ain road on Saturday morning due to thick fog.

The first incident which involved five vehicles took place on Al Sad -Suwaihan bridge roundabout, while the second one, which occured on the Al Sad-Suwaihan Bridge towards Abu Dhabi, was a major accident involving 69 cars, said a statement from Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate.

The third one, which was a eight-car pileup occurred on the Al Sad -Suwaihan Bridge towards Al Ain, while the fourth accident, which involved 14 cars, took place on the Busamra-Al Ain road, it stated.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaiaili, the deputy director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said: "As soon as we got informantion about the accident, the traffic was diverted from Al Sad towards Suwaihan and traffic flow was supervised on the Al Sad- Suwaihan road and Busamra Bridge – Al Ain road, until the remnants of the damaged vehicles were removed off the crash site."
 
He said the paramedics who reached the accident spot, immediately rushed the injured to Tawam hospital and the damaged vehicles were removed off the crash site.

"After getting treatment, 18 have already left the hospital, while five are still there. Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the accident," stated Brigadier Al Khaiaili.

He called upon motorists to adhere to driving instructions during fog, to be cautious, reduce speed, and maintain a safety distance between vehicles to avoid accidents.-TradeArabia News Service
