Bapco explores additional gas resources to meet demand

MANAMA, November 6, 2014

Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) is exploring additional gas resources to meet the ever increasing domestic gas demand in the kingdom.

Chairman Adel Almoayyed accompanied by the chief executive Dr Peter Bartlett, general manager HR and administration acting general manager exploration and petroleum engineering Ghassan Ali Al Muhanna, National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) general manager Jassim Al Sherawi and a number of oil and gas sector officials visited the site of Deep Gas Well (BD-1), said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

During the tour, Occidental representatives provided a short presentation on the project in terms of objectives, engineering design and timeframe.

This was followed by a tour to the well site facilities and equipment.

“Well BD-1 drilling rig (Nabors 144) is the biggest rig ever used in Bahrain Field,” Al Muhanna said.

“The rig is drilling the deepest and most expensive well ever in Bahrain to a depth of approximately 17,000 feet to explore for deep gas reservoirs.

“It is expected to reach target depth in the next four months which will be followed by extensive testing and hydraulic fracking. The exploration and production sharing agreement was signed in February 2011 with Occidental Petroleum designed specifically to explore and drill deep reservoirs,” he said. - TradeArabia News Service
