Solar projects....reduce carbon emissions and production cost

UAE to set up series of 100MW solar power stations

ABU DHABI, April 6, 2015

UAE’s Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) is set to create a series of solar power stations with a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) at a cost of Dh500 million ($136 million), according to a report.

The new project will be established in the northern parts of the country under the supervision of FEWA, in partnership with the private sector, said the Emirates News Agency (WAM) report.

It will aim at using clean energy through solar power, with work under process on the adoption of a comprehensive study of the project, to put it out to tender in cooperation with the private sector, Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, FEWA’s director general, was quoted as saying.

The project aims to reduce carbon emissions as well as reducing the cost of energy production, and thus contributing to building an integrated sound environment in all regions of the country, which are subject to the supervision of the Federal Authority and work within the strategic and future visions of the national leadership, he added.
