Schlumberger opens hitech facility in Saudi Arabia

Schlumberger, the world's largest oilfield services company, has officially opened a new facility to support the oilfield asset reliability and efficiency in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

The Schlumberger Middle East Center for Reliability and Efficiency is a major regional hub dedicated to advanced maintenance and servicing of oil and gas technologies for the Middle East region. It is located in Dammam second Industrial City, Eastern Province.

The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Amin H. Nasser, the president and CEO of Saudi Aramco, the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals enterprise.

Speaking at the launch, Nasser said: "Schlumberger’s decision to invest in this regional world-scale facility in Saudi Arabia underlines the kingdom’s key position as the epicenter of the global energy industry and also as an attractive destination for investors."

"In addition to supporting Saudi Aramco’s In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) program to increase local content across our supply chain, this centre creates jobs and enables development opportunities for talented Saudis in energy and related sectors," stated Nasser.

"Being the largest of its kind in the world, it is part of a new business model for enhanced service delivery and I am proud to see highly-qualified, specialized Saudi engineers and technicians doing work that is critical to maintaining Saudi Arabia’s position as the world’s leading supplier of energy," he added.       

Lauding Schlumberger for the new facility, Mohammed Al Qahtani, the senior vice president of Upstream, Saudi Aramco said: "The decision to locate this regional hub in Saudi Arabia means that we will significantly boost the range of oil field services facilities in-Kingdom, providing operational benefits to our business and enhanced reliability, and creating further opportunities for Saudi technical talent."

Sherif Foda, president (Production group) Schlumberger, said: "The Middle East Center for Reliability and Efficiency (CRE) collocates maintenance and product center sustaining experts who engage in industry–leading maintenance processes."

"These experts ensure that sustaining activities are aligned with specific operational demands in Saudi Arabia and the extended Middle East region. The Middle East CRE is the benchmark model within the Schlumberger network,” he stated.

According to Foda, the Middle East CRE is the largest state-of-the-art facility in the Schlumberger network at 178,000 sq m. It is aligned with the IKTVA program and will employ more than 450 Saudi nationals.
 
Schlumberger said it has principal offices in Paris, Houston, London and The Hague, and reported revenues of $35.47 billion in 2015. Working in more than 85 countries, the company provides the industry’s widest range of products and services from exploration through production.-TradeArabia News Service
