Dewa inaugurates new 132/11 kV substation

DUBAI, January 4, 2017

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has inaugurated a new 132/11 kV substation with a total capacity of 150 Megavolt Amperes at Al Quoz 4, in collaboration with state-owned property company Meraas Holding.

This is part of Dewa’s commitment to its growing portfolio of development projects, particularly in its efforts to install main substations across Dubai, said a statement from the company.

Also it reflects the utility firm’s continued endeavours to increase efficiency and reliability of its line of 132 kilovolt (kV) substations.

Speaking at the launch, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa, said: "We strive to enhance infrastructure and utilities in Dubai according to the highest international standards, which in turn will further strengthen the UAE economy and enhance its position."

"The project aims to increase the capacity and efficiency of electricity and transmission networks at Al Quoz 4. We have extended ground cables with capacity of 132 KV to connect it to the 132/11 KV Ampere and the 132/400 KV Ampere at Al Quoz," he stated.

"We are working to upgrade existing substations by increasing their capacity and introducing the latest globally-adopted technologies. This modern electricity network will help position Dubai as one of the cities with the best infrastructure," stated Al Tayer.

Dewa plans to complete the construction of 100 substations of 132/11 KV in different phases over the next three years.

"This will further enhance the efficiency and reliability of its networks across vital growth areas and ensure continuity and stability of supplies to our customers at all times," observed Al Tayer.

"This substation applies and uses state-of-the-art digital technologies, contributing to promoting their efficiency and reliability, and will eventually serve Dubai’s urban and ambitious plans," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
