REGION’S FIRST TDI PLANT STARTS

Sadara achieves full commercial operations at complex

JUBAIL, Saudi Arabia, September 17, 2017

Sadara Chemical Company, the largest chemical complex ever built in a single phase, announced the commercial start-up of its toluene di isocyanate (TDI) facility.  The production of commercial quantities of TDI marks the full commercial operation of all facilities in the Sadara complex.

Located in the company’s chemical complex in Jubail Industrial City II, the TDI unit consists of three integrated units that will produce di nitro toluene (DNT), toluene di amine (TDA), and toluene di isocyanate (TDI).

Sadara CEO Ziad Al-Labban said: “Sadara has come a long way in the last six years, from the signing of the original agreement between our shareholders, Saudi Aramco and The Dow Chemical Company, to Sadara’s official inauguration last November by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, to today’s commercial operation of all plants at the Sadara complex. The petrochemical and chemical products from Sadara will further spur the kingdom’s industrial growth across multiple sectors, including automotive, construction, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods.”

TDI is widely used in the production of furniture, mattresses and cushioning, as well as car seats. It also has a variety of industrial uses, such as the production of coatings, adhesives, sealants, specialty foams and other industrial products.  – TradeArabia News Service
