The A-type gangway has an extensive proven track record

Ampelmann secures contract for Qatar field

DOHA, December 4, 2017

Ampelmann has secured a contract to supply its A-type gangway system to North Oil Company (NOC) on the chartered Bourbon Gulf Star DP2 72 PAX support vessel.

This diesel electric, 73m vessel is currently deployed to the Al Shaheen Oil Field, 80 km north of Doha, Qatar.

Ampelmann designs and delivers innovative, safe, reliable and efficient transfer solutions to the offshore energy sector.

Enabling access to multiple offshore platforms, the Ampelmann gangway will be used for project and maintenance campaigns, as well as supporting various scheduled shutdowns.

As the first full motion-compensating access solution for transferring personnel and cargo in the world, the Ampelmann A-type gangway revolutionised the Walk to Work market. The patented system can compensate up to three-meter significant wave height to transfer personnel safely and efficiently, in a matter of minutes.

The Ampelmann Country Manager for Qatar, Jayne Moran, said: “Being awarded this contract is important to Ampelmann, as we continue to expand our presence in the Middle East. The A-type gangway provides our customers with a safe, reliable and cost-efficient method of transferring offshore personnel. We are pleased that North Oil Company has decided to adopt our system in Qatar.”

The A-type gangway has an extensive proven track record of reducing operational costs, downtime and project durations, while increasing safety, efficiency and weather windows. It has successfully participated in more than 110 projects all across the globe.

The gangway was installed on the Bourbon Gulf Star at the end of November and will be deployed from early December until June 2018.

Ampelmann Middle East has been providing offshore personnel access in Qatar since 2013, serving customers from a local office since early 2014. The company has carried out over 3.8 million safe transfers to date globally. With a host of projects ranging from two weeks to 10 years for both IOC’s and NOC’s in the Middle East and elsewhere, Ampelmann remains the global market leader in offshore access.

NOC was established in 2016 as a partnership between a wholly owned affiliate of Qatar Petroleum (70%) and Total (30%) to develop and operate the Al Shaheen Oil Field for the next 25 years. The company completed its acquisition of the field in July 2017. - TradeArabia News Service
