Bose unveils ‘in-ear’ headphones

Dubai, December 5, 2007

Bose has introduced its first in-ear headphones, offering a combination of audio performance, comfortable design and stable fit previously unavailable from conventional in-ear headphones.

The Bose in-ear headphones deliver high-quality audio from a lightweight, remarkably small design.  Music is reproduced with accuracy across a wide range of frequencies.  Low notes and high frequencies remain natural and clear at all volume levels, said an official spokesman.

Ergonomically designed for long-term listening, the Bose in-ear headphones rest gently yet securely in the ears. The fit can be customised for enhanced comfort using three interchangeable, differently sized silicone ear tips: small (white), medium (gray) and large (black).

There are no pressure points or adjustments to contend with while in use, avoiding the irritation or instability sometimes associated with in-ear headphones.

To achieve this balance of audio quality, comfort and stability, the elements in the Bose in-ear headphones were developed and engineered to work together. Using this approach, one aspect of performance was not compromised for another.

The resulting experience delivers what the in-ear headphone category promised at its inception: personal quality audio that’s portable, comfortable, convenient and can be enjoyed virtually anywhere.

Having spent decades of research in headphone audio performance, the sound quality of the Bose in-ear headphones reflects a culmination of learning.  Developing an in-ear design to leverage this expertise presented new challenges.

Bose engineers employed an electro-acoustic design and a uniquely designed silicone ear tip to deliver full, lifelike sound. As part of this approach, the new headphones incorporate Bose Triport acoustic headphone structure, originally used in the Bose aviation headsets for pilots.

Now applied to an in-ear design that weighs less than one ounce, this technology features small ports in the ear pieces that help reproduce deep, low notes without increasing headphone size.

Bose in-ear headphones feel soft and comfortable even after hours of listening. The shape and silicone materials of the ear tips allow the headphones to “rest” gently in the concha (the natural bowl of the ear), providing just enough contact to secure the headphones in place.

There is no behind-the-ear cable needed, and unlike many conventional earbuds, the Bose in-ear headphones do not need to be pushed deeply within the ear canal to stay secure. This increased level of stability withstands almost any daily activity - from exercise to commuting. And the meticulous design ensures that simply relaxing with music isn’t disrupted by discomfort.

Engineered for use with portable audio devices like MP3 players, CD and DVD players, the Bose in-ear headphones join the Bose family of audio headphones (which do not employ noise reducing technology), including the original Bose around-ear headphones, and the Bose on-ear headphones.
