Bhatia joins Dr Datar and family at the launch ceremony.

Al Adil opens new supermarket in Bahrain

MANAMA, December 16, 2017

UAE-based Al Adil Trading Company, a leading name for Indian food stuff in the region, last night opened its 39th outlet in the GCC at Umm Al Hassam in Bahrain, as part of its regional expansion strategy.

The supermarket, which is the third one for Bahrain, was inaugurated by popular Indian movie star Tamannah Bhatia to the cheering of thousands of fans, who had been waiting patiently for nearly two hours to catch a glimpse of their favourite 'Bahubali' actress.

The stunning Bollywood beauty was joined by Al Adil Trading Company chairman Dr Dhananjay Datar, the food tycoon popularly known as ‘Masala King’ along with other senior officials at the launch.

The store, which is located opposite Copper Chimney restaurant, opened just in time for Bahrain’s National Day being celebrated today (December 16).

Speaking at the launch, Dr Dhananjay Datar, said: “Our commitment to quality foodstuff, freshness and the affordable pricing is a tribute to all women who demand nutrition at the best price for their family.”

"Bhatia who is with us for this opening, is a popular and recognized movie star and well-known for her strong on-screen characters that she plays. Her ability to make a mark for herself in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema is an indication of her vast talent as an actress," remarked Dr Datar, whose stores in Bahrain have all been inaugurated by Indian film stars - the earlier being Bollywood queens Juhi Chawla and Preity Zinta who opened the Manama and Yateem Centre outlets respectively.

Dr Datar pointed out that this underscores his admiration for the multi-talented persona of the modern Indian woman.

"I believe that the presence of such a talented and beautiful young star to inaugurate our stores is my way of acknowledging the many roles that modern women play in their lives as artistes, working women and guardians of the family," he added.

The company aims to open eight new stores across the region by the end of 2018 with focus on prime markets such as Oman, Bahrain and Qatar. Talks are also on for expanding the Al Adil brand in Saudi Arabia, Dr Datar told TradeArabia while speaking at the launch.

"We have set an ambitious target to launch five to six stores every year and soon we will hit the magic figure of 50," he said.

"There is a major demand for our organic food products including authentic masalas, spices and pulses in the GCC and that is where our main focus is. With more and more people switching over to a healthy lifestyle, the organic food section is turning out to a hot favourite for our customers, stated Dr Datar.

"From our side, we give customers the options to choose their grains and even get it milled into flour at the premises," he added.

Bhatia, who looked resplendent in her black dress, was all praise for the Al Adil enterprise, saying: "Food is a great cultural connection between people and countries. By showcasing the best of Indian foodstuff, Al Adil and Peacock brand have brought a significant slice of India to the Gulf."

A leading Indian actress Bhatia, who predominantly appears in the south Indian Telugu and Tamil films, became a household name in India after the all-time blockbuster “Bahubali: The beginning.”

"I am sure the Bahrain Indian community will relish this expansion of their favourite store," she added.

As a special launch offer, Al Adil is offering 50 per cent off on 200 items in its store including pulses, atta, masalas, spices, sugar, ghee, pickles, basmati rice, other rice varieties, biscuits, namkeen and excellent organic products too, said a staff member at the newly opened store.

"In the almost 30 years since opening its first store in the UAE, Al Adil has acquired a cult-like status among Indian expatriates," he stated.

Dr Datar, he said, has been instrumental in bringing 3,000 new more Indian products to the GCC region. He was recently honored by Forbes ME with the Top Indian Leader in the Arab World 2017 – Retail award.

"For the NRIs as well as expatriates from other parts of the globe, we have become the first choice when it comes to getting preferred foodstuff including authentic masalas and spices," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
