RJ monitors volcano; flights not hit so far

Amman , June 14, 2011

Royal Jordanian (RJ) said in a statement today that the airline is monitoring the movement of the ash cloud from the Nabro volcano, which erupted in the northeast African nation of Eritrea last Sunday.

Until Tuesday afternoon, RJ flights are running on their regular schedule and not affected by the ash clouds, said RJ president and CEO Hussein Dabbas.

Dabbas said the airline had formed a committee to follow the ash cloud movement that is slowly being pushed by the wind towards Sudan and the northwestern regions, Egypt and northern Saudi Arabia.

He said the airline has come up with a contingency plan to be activated in case it has to suspend some flights, particularly those to Khartoum and passengers will be informed if any changes are effected to its flight schedule. - TradeArabia News Service
