NATS completes project at New Doha airport

Doha, November 13, 2013

NATS, a global leader in air traffic services and solutions, has successfully completed work on the Qatar Airspace Design and Implementation (QADI) project for the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) on schedule.

NATS was awarded the multi-year contract in September 2011, following a successful bid to deliver efficient and effective air navigation services in Qatar, the company said.

The large-scale strategic infrastructure project required NATS to deploy a team of airspace design and training experts in Doha, supported by subject matter experts from the UK, it said.

With its dual runway operation and systemised airspace design, NDIA - now known as Hamad International Airport - will offer more than double the capacity of the existing airport. It is forecast to become the second largest aviation hub in the region.

To ensure these capacity benefits are realised, a significant amount of work within airspace and procedure design was undertaken by NATS. At all stages of the project, NATS worked closely with QCAA experts to develop and validate the optimum design possible, taking into account all known constraints.

The project was successfully completed this June on time as per the agreed contract with NDIA, with the validated design forming the backbone of the Qatar airspace in the future.
“NATS succeeded in all objectives,” said Ahmed Al-Eshaq, director of air navigation at the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. “All deliverables were made according to the agreed contract schedule and NATS' customer relationship with QCAA and other QADI stakeholders was first class throughout.”

John Swift, director middle east, NATS, said: “This has been yet another successful project delivered by NATS in the region. We are pleased that we have been able to meet QCAA’s requirements and work on this strategically important project.  Our team has really enjoyed working in Qatar and we hope that we will continue our excellent working relationship here.”
NATS is currently working on projects in Kuwait and Oman, and has previously worked with Bahrain and at Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai to support the safety, efficiency and environmental performance of its airspace, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
