DTCM to focus on development of tourism leaders

DUBAI, April 27, 2015

Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) will unveil an industry programme at Careers UAE aimed at developing new Emirati graduate recruits to the company into tourism leaders.

The ‘Tourism Talent Incubator’, will be a long-term industry familiarisation programme with the first intake happening later in the year.

The modular plan will be designed to provide opportunities for graduates to obtain a broad experience of the tourism industry, enabling them to identify future career paths which suit their talents and preferences. Undertaken as part of their DTCM employment, the programme, which will take place over two to three years, will see individuals completing training within different sectors of the tourism and hospitality industry and performing a number of tasks which provide exposure to the wider tourism economy.

The individuals will gain a 360-degree appreciation for the industry and create recommendation reports covering aspects of the tourism sector such as food, adventure, hotels, cultural activities and more.

Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “With tourism a major pillar of Dubai’s strategic economic diversification and central to the Dubai Plan 2021, the industry and its related sectors offer a wealth of employment opportunities for Emirati nationals, both within the government and the private sector. Currently in the ideation phase, the Tourism Talent Incubator programme will be bench-marked against the training plans of other Dubai-organisations, and be developed with one objective in mind: to create the tourism leaders of our future.”

Complementing the announcement of the programme, DTCM is currently profiling a number of young Emiratis who work for the organisation, highlighting the important roles they play in promoting Dubai to the world, with the aim of attracting further applications for jobs at DTCM.

Titled “ANA DUBAI” (Arabic for “I Am Dubai”), the campaign’s short term focus is an increased presence at events and the placement of case studies within media outlets. The first event attended under this new scheme is Careers 2015, the UAE’s leading recruitment, training and education exhibition. DTCM will be on stand (B6-2 Hall 6) and invites Emirati nationals interested in a future within the tourism industry to visit the stand.

Also present on the stand will be representatives from a number of hotels and attractions, to which Emirati candidates can apply for relevant positions. – TradeArabia News Service
