QAIA sees passenger numbers rise

Jordan airport sees over 2.2m passengers since Jan

Jordan's Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) reported a consistent streak of traffic growth for the fourth successive month, welcoming 2,241,327 passengers since the start of the year - up 7.2 per cent in year-to-date (YTD) passenger traffic.

Moreover, Airport International Group (AIG) – the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of QAIA – announced that, since the beginning of the year, YTD aircraft movement (ACM) figures have risen by 8.3 per cent, while cargo handled has also increased by a notable 10.3 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.

“For the fourth consecutive month, QAIA has registered significant growth in passenger numbers, ACM and cargo traffic results, which were especially enhanced by the Easter holiday and Umrah trips,” said Kjeld Binger, CEO of Airport International Group. “We look forward to witnessing more positive results during the upcoming period, not only as a result of the nearing holiday season, but also due to the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, which has recently launched new campaigns showcasing the Kingdom’s major attractions in order to appeal to more tourists.”

The airport also reported a 4 per cent year-on-year(YoY) increase in passenger numbers for the month of April, welcoming 601,808 passengers compared to 578,539 passsengers in April 2015.

In addition, QAIA witnessed a notable year-on-year increase in aircraft movements (ACM), recording 6,029 compared to last year’s 5,700, rising 5.8 per cent. Cargo traffic numbers also climbed in comparison to last year, reaching 9,670 tons and registering a significant year-on-year growth of 10.6 per cent. - TradeArabia News Service
