Airfare cuts planned for Saudia

RIYADH, July 18, 2016

Air fares for Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), the kingdom's national carrier, could be reduced under government proposals, said a report.

The Transport and Communications Committee at the Shoura Council is to discuss the prospects of cutting fares in meetings this week, Saudi Gazette reported

The proposals are part of plans to help increase the Saudia's capacity on domestic and international flights, as well as improving the flag carrier’s performance, the report said.

Nasser Al Otaibi, committee chairman, was quoted as saying councillors will discuss a handful of important issues this week including proposals to expand the railway system linking Riyadh with Qurayyat, Majmaa, Qassim and Hail.

“We are planning to develop the railway system throughout the Kingdom coping with modern developments in the field,” Al-Otaibi said.

Saudi Railway Organization was recently been brought under the Transport Ministry.
