Dubai officially opens $3.6bn theme park destination

DUBAI, December 19, 2016

DXB Entertainments, the Dubai-based leisure and entertainments company, has opened its ambitious Dubai Parks and Resorts, a Dh13.2 billion ($3.59 billion) entertainment destination in the Middle East, at a grand ceremony held in the presence of VIP dignitaries.

The Middle East’s largest theme park destination comprises three theme parks - Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai and Riverland Dubai - besides a uniquely-themed dining and retail district Riverland Dubai and a Polynesian-themed family hotel Lapita (part of the Marriott Autograph Collection) on a 30.6 million-sq-ft area.

The mammoth development was officially inaugurated on Sunday by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Speaking at the launch, Sheikh Mohammed said he was confident that the new project will attract those looking for family entertainment and tourism and cultural and artistic activities, reported state news agency Wam.

He pointed out that Dubai Parks and Resorts constitutes a pillar of the tourism sector in the UAE and a driver of economic diversification, said the report.

Motiongate Dubai is the first ever collaboration between three of Hollywood’s most legendary studios, Columbia Pictures, DreamWorks and Lionsgate.

Legoland Dubai, the first Legoland theme park in the Middle East, while Bollywood Parks Dubai is the first-of-its-kind theme park that showcases rides and attraction based on some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters.

The resort will also host the Legoland Water Park, the region’s first water park catering to families with children aged 2-12, which will open in the near future.

The promising project, he said, reflects his vision and Dubai's strategy for achieving sustainable development, as it provides entertainment for citizens, residents and visitors who will have an opportunity to learn more about the cultures of the UAE and the entire world.

Sheikh Mohammed further underlined long-term partnership between the public and private sectors "because a bird cannot fly with just one wing," stated the report

"The public and private sectors are inseparable as they constitute a solid and robust economic pillar," he stated, calling for stronger co-operation, co-ordination and integration between the two sectors, at the local and federal levels, so as to achieve the UAE Vision 2021.

The event showcased its theme parks in a special show involving the dancers and actors from Dubai Parks and Resorts’ live entertainment team, who perform in shows such as the Bollywood musical, Jaan-e-Jigar and Step Up All In, inspired by the Step Up film franchise.
