Sharjah plans new tourism maps

SHARJAH, December 28, 2016

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey in Sharjah to improve tourism maps in the emirate.

The agreement was signed by Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, chairman of SCTDA, and Salah bin Butti Al Muhairi, head of the directorate. It bolsters cooperation between governmental, semi-governmental, and private institutions to improve the emirate’s tourism sector, said a Wam news agency report.

According to the MoU, the two sides have agreed to exchange information and data pertaining to the tourism sector and to innovate new methods to improve tourism maps in the emirate. In addition, the two institutions will issue printed and electronic maps that include a hotel registry as well as a calendar of weekly and seasonal events, as well as directions to camping areas, safari parks, and others.

The agreement seeks to highlight the tourism and entertainment offerings of the emirate, which, in turn, will help promote Sharjah as a tourist destination.

Al Midfa said: "We, at the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, are working to improve our promotional efforts to position Sharjah as a premier tourist destination, and to expand the emirate’s tourism sector, which is a major component of its economy. To that end, we are looking to cooperate with all government entities in Sharjah to further the authority’s objectives." - TradeArabia News Service
