Jordan airport passenger numbers up 1.6pc in Jan

AMMAN, March 5, 2017

Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) reported a 1.6 per cent year-to-year rise in  passenger numbers for the month of January, welcoming 576,912 passengers - a slight increase from the passenger numbers in January 2016.

In the same period last year, the airport witnessed 567,823 passengers pass through its facility.

Furthermore, QAIA recorded 5,819 aircraft movements (ACM) as opposed to 5,898 ACM in 2016, effecting a 1.3 per cent year-on-year fall, while cargo figures dropped 7.0 per cent as the airport handled 7,036 tons compared to 7,561 tons during the same month of 2016.

“We maintain a positive outlook for the current year, particularly in light of last year’s inauguration of the second phase of QAIA’s New Terminal Project, which increased the airport’s annual passenger capacity to up to 12 million and added more gates and cutting-edge facilities that will enhance passenger experience. We also look forward to implementing a new strategy that aims at attracting new airlines to Jordan’s prime gateway to the world throughout the year,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger. - TradeArabia News Service
