Thailand to host roadshow in Iran, Qatar

DUBAI, April 16, 2017

The Tourism Authority of Thailand Dubai & Middle East office will be hosting a road-show in Iran and Qatar to promote Thailand as “Value for Experiences” by focussing on “unique Thai local experiences”.

In line with the Thailand 4.0 model, TAT will be highlighting a value-based economy-driven by innovation and creativity, delivering creative tourism. TAT has also initiated the Link project in which ‘L’ represents Local Experiences; ‘I’ for Innovation; ‘N’ for Networking and ‘K’ for Keeping character. This is aimed to promote the local tourism in various communities in Thailand; such as, Ban Na Ton Chan Community in Sukhothai province, Kram Sakon in Sakon Nakhon province, Ban Nam Chiao Ecotourism Community, Trat province, and Ko Klang Community, Krabi province. The first leg of the road-show will be taking place on April 16 in Tehran, moving on April 18 in Shiraz and ending on April 20 in Doha.

The first leg of the Middle East roadshow will be taking place in Tehran in partnership with Mahan Air at Espinas Palace Hotel. The second leg of the roadshow will be taking place in Shiraz in partnership with Qatar Airways in Iran and will be held at Shiraz Grand Hotel. The last leg of the roadshow will be taking place in Doha in partnership with Qatar Airways head office and will be held at Grand Hyatt Doha.

The delegation is led by Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor for TAT, along with members from Thailand-based travel and tourism industry partners.

Commenting on the roadshow, Petsuwan said: “Promoting the local experience will not only benefit visitors, but also the local people as well as travel agents. We strongly believe that each local community of Thailand can deliver distinctive, genuine, unique hospitality and Thai culture with new exciting experiences to tourists. Also, this will create new and unique quality products for travel agents to offer to their customers.”

The Thai delegation will be meeting selected travel agents from Tehran, Shiraz and Doha to highlight Thailand’s destinations that are known to provide quality experiences improving general quality of life before heading at Arabian Travel Market from April 24-27. TAT also aims to build and strengthen the business ties and network within Iran and Qatar between private sectors from Thailand and local partners across the region.

From January 1 – December 31, 2016, Thailand welcomed 585,633 tourists from the Middle East including Iran, generating an income of more than 40 million Thai Baht, a 15 per cent increase compares to same time last year. The top five tourism spending countries in the Middle East region are UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.

Chalermsak Suranant, Director of TAT Dubai, said: “We are extremely happy to announce that TAT Middle East office received a 13 per cent increase in tourist arrival in 2016 compared to 2015. In 2017, we aim at increasing this number to 34.5 Million overseas travellers, up 6 per cent over 2016 and plan to attract more tourists during the green season which will fall from May-August.” - TradeArabia News Service
