DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Business Bay takes up key eco-friendly measures

DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai champions sustainability

DUBAI, 27 days ago

DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Business Bay – has recently undertaken several social initiatives and implemented in-house sustainable practices to celebrate Plastic Free Month, in line with Travel with Purpose, Hilton’s global Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

The hotel is implementing several measures to reduce plastic consumption including replacing plastic bottles with glass ones throughout the property, using paper straws, and providing eco-friendly amenities like pencils with seeds in meeting rooms.

Additionally, it has established a water bottling plant within its premises, aiming for zero plastic bottle waste in alignment with the Dubai Can initiative.

Over the years, the hotel has appointed some incredible sustainability champions, who have participated in several desert cleanups and tree-planting efforts.

In the Al Quoz area, a team from the hotel previously collaborated with Dubai Municipality during a massive clean-up effort, which received invaluable support and acknowledgement from the municipality.

During Earth Week 2024, the hotel’s team committee, which is dedicated to environmental stewardship, joined forces with Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF to restore Wadi Al Shees in Sharjah’s natural beauty after heavy rains, while they also led a beautifying project, aimed at enhancing the composition and visual aesthetics of Al Qudra Desert during Earth Week 2023.

The hotel has also recently joined hands with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) to combat desertification and soil depletion.

As part of this collaboration, the team is collecting paper in all departments with the goal of recycling at least 1,000kg to support afforestation campaigns.

This project takes inspiration from the ongoing "Year of Sustainability" initiative in the UAE with the hotel aiming to achieve its own sustainability milestones in line with this worthy cause.

A proud contributor to several global environmental sustainability initiatives, including recently planting 100 mangrove saplings, which are known to help combat climate change because they can store more carbon per unit area than any other ecosystem on Earth, DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Business Bay takes its environmental stewardship seriously.

To combat over-reliance on paper, DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Business Bay has implemented e-registration via iPads to promote paperless check-in and check-out procedures. Additionally, they support the use of QR codes within the hotel to further minimise paper usage.

Through its energy conservation efforts, the hotel has installed 57.24 KWp solar PV panels on its rooftop, generating approximately 8,400 kWh of energy per month.

They are also minimising waste in the restaurant by using advanced technology like the Winnow food waste reduction system and composting all food waste offsite.

The hotel’s “No Bin” days in the team member cafeteria, the Clean Plate Challenge, and embracing the Fresh On Table initiative, where the team curates menus with locally sourced ingredients, further highlight its dedication to reducing waste.

“From energy reduction to waste management and community engagement, our hotel is committed to creating a lasting positive impact on our community and environment,” said Hany Ahmed, General Manager, DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Business Bay.

“Through our various initiatives, we aim to inspire both our guests and team members to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle and contribute to a greener future.” – TradeArabia News Service
