Seminar probes Indian tax issues

Manama, February 20, 2012

More than 300 members of Bahrain Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (BCICAI) took part in a seminar that focused on tax issues facing non-resident Indians in the Kingdom.

The seminar titled 'International Taxation and Cloud Computing' was held at the Gulf Hotel in Manama on Sunday. The event was sponsored by LIC International and Bahrain Financing Company.

Leading Indian chartered accountant T P Ostwal spoke on tax issues facing non-resident Indians in Bahrain. He argued that new treaties were necessary to improve the tax position of Indians working here.

World Tax magazine has recognised him as one of the leading 10 tax professionals advising transfer pricing matters in India.

He was recently appointed a member of a sub-committee on transfer pricing for developing countries by the United Nations and for preparing a negotiation manual of treaties by developing countries.

Ostwal is a regular speaker at international tax conferences, workshops, seminars and courses in India and abroad.

Secureit Lab Bahrain director and head of practice Ashish Sharma spoke on the introduction of cloud computing as it affected accountancy. He also outlined threats and mitigation strategies for the profession.

"Both topics covered by the seminar are very contemporary to the professional accountant whether they are in public practice, business or employment," said BCICAI chairman T D Balraj.-TradeArabia News Service
