Kuwait to restart blaze-hit refinery unit soon

KUWAIT, November 15, 2015

Kuwait will restart operations at the crude distillation unit (CDU) of its Shuaiba oil refinery "within a few days", a spokesman of state refiner Kuwait National Petroleum Co (KNPC) said on Sunday.

A limited fire on Friday night at the unit has been brought under control and did not cause any casualties, KNPC has said.

"Some units are operational but the refinery shall take a few days," KNPC spokesman Khalid al-Asousi told Reuters.

Shuaiba is Kuwait's smallest refinery. It has a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, but has been running at less than that since a fire hit its heavy oil cracking unit in August.

Opec member Kuwait has three refineries, including Shuaiba, with a combined capacity of 930,000 bpd.-Reuters
