Global Village draws record 5m visitors

The Dubai Global Village, the largest outdoor family entertainment venue in the region, ended its 16th and longest season ever on a triumphant note welcoming almost 5 million visitors  through the 151 day event.

A member of Tecom Investments, the Global Village said the volume of trade generated in the park exceeded Dh1.5 billion ($408.3 million), making it an astounding success for investors as well.

The family entertainment venue also witness to a new record of 165,000 visitors on a single day, according to senior officials at the Global Village.

During its current season, Global Village had hosted 29 pavilions featuring 45 countries, with Tunisia, Spain and Kyrgyzstan making their debut. The 2600 shops were run by approximately 10,000 friendly and helpful staff members.

Over 500 media representatives from all over the globe were welcomed during the event. A total of 8,000 shows were presented on 22 stages such as the World Culture Stage, Special Events Tent and Community Stage as well as the various pavilion stages.

However it is important to point out that Global Village's success is quantitative and as well as qualitative. Not only did the number of visitors grow, but their overall experience was more rewarding and more enjoyable. In a survey of 10,000 visitors, the overall satisfaction rate was sky high at 90%.

The survey also gave the shows and events a standing ovation with an 85% satisfaction rating. Comfort standards were impressively high, thanks in large part to the spacious venue which sprawls across 17 million square meters.

A number of schools, universities, sports teams and NGOs also organized visits to the park during the 151 day event.

A major highlight at the show was 'Khalifat Zayed,' which ran from November 29 to December 21 at the Global Village.

The distinctive show demonstrated through two UAE citizens - a young girl and a boy visiting some other countries - the love of the Emirati citizens to the homeland and the head of state.

Explaining about the show, Saeed Ali Bin Redha, CEO of the Global Village, said, "Khalifat Zayed aims to highlight the concept of Global Village with all its atmosphere that gathers the world's cultures, where the show shed light on the culture and traditions of the UAE."

"It showcases the historical development of the state since the rule of late Sheikh Zayed and even now under the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa, President of the UAE who were keen to spread the name of UAE along all countries and raise its flag globally," he added.

The Fazza Yola Championships thrilled audiences; but this was by no means the only highlight, as there were five-star performances by Bollywood, Argentinan, Chinese, Ecuadorian and many other authentic cultural groups.

According to Redha, the fun fair area increased by 30 per cent, offering more than 40 rides and games for adrenalin-seeking enthusiasts of all ages.

A total of 150 kiosks were on hand, with 40 kiosks from the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders (SME) which introduced fresh and innovative business ideas.

"Not to be outdone, the 25 restaurants offered some tantalizing Arab, Indian  and Asian cuisine," he stated.

"Diners complimented the high standards of cleanliness, as did Dubai Municipality's food department. Visitors also had a relaxed evening enjoying the serene environment along the 800 meter canal and lake, interrupted only by the beautiful Dancing Fountain and Water Screen shows," the official remarked.

According to Redha, the Dubai Global Village achieved great success this season, further enhancing its status as the most exciting entertainment and shopping event in the region.

"Looking ahead, Global Village is geared to build on this success, and envisions that the forthcoming seasons will be even more exceptional," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
