Drake & Scull sees Infinity Tower ready by 2011
Dubai

Drake and Scull International has announced that work on Infinity Tower, developed by Cayan Investment and Development, is moving forward and the new completion date of the project is 2011.

Drake and Scull is a leading UAE service provider of mechanical, electrical and plumbing contracting and civil contracting.

DSI was originally awarded the contract by Cayan in December 2006. The contract value is Dh145 million, and is for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of complete MEP works.

Infinity Tower is the world's tallest high rise building with a twist of 90˚. Each floor is rotated by 1.2˚ to achieve the full 90˚ spiral, creating the shape of a helix.

The Tower, which has won numerous awards including best architecture in the world at the 2006 International Property Awards in London, is designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merill; who are known for their iconic landmarks such as the Sears Tower in Chicago and Burj Dubai in Dubai.

Ahmed Al Hatti, chairman of Cayan Investment & Development, said, “Cayan always ensures to work with the best companies who are the most qualified in their field to ensure that its standards are met to the highest level which is why for mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, we selected Drake & Scull, which brings to us many years of specialised experience.”

Khaldoun Tabari, vice chairman and chief executive officer, Drake & Scull International, commented, "We are delighted that work has restarted on Infinity Tower, a project we are very proud to be a part of. Skidmore, Owings & Merill are renowned for their landmark buildings and Infinity Tower’s striking architectural design will ensure its prominence as a visual icon for the region."

"To be awarded the contract by Cayan Investment & Development is a reflection of Drake & Scull’s continued commitment to provide the highest standards of quality through innovation, industry expertise and skilled personnel which has resulted in the company establishing contracts with many of the world’s most prestigious projects," he added.

At 330 metres, the Infinity Tower offers unobstructed views of Dubai Marina and the Arabian Gulf, incorporating a high-strength, reinforced concrete column superstructure that rotates with the twisting shape to create a helix.

The Tower will include a rooftop park, a health spa, a gymnasium, conference rooms, a cigar-room, a fully equipped nursery, an outdoor tennis court and other amenities. The main contractor for the Infinity Tower is Arabtec, one of the biggest construction companies in the region.-TradeArabia News Service
